A modern birdhouse, crafted from durable cedar planks, featuring nickel-plated hardware for sleek functionality. The addition of sheet metal accents enhances both strength and style, creating a secure and aesthetically pleasing sanctuary.
The bird chosen is the American White-Breasted Nuthatch.
These commonly found birds tend to nest in natural tree cavities around 20-25 feet up. Based on the conducted research I began my exploration on design and materials.

The design process began with a detailed bird model, which helped inform the structure and functionality of the birdhouse.

From there, numerous sketches were created to explore different forms and materials, ultimately guiding the selection of cedar, nickel-plated hardware, and sheet metal for a harmonious and durable final design.

The design was brought into prototyping using affordable, yet effective materials for explaining form such as plywood.

The final materials chosen were cedar wood planks, complimented by beautiful sheet metal accents, all tied together with nickel plated hardware.
